The Mission:
The Savannah Riverkeeper strives to respect, protect, and improve the river basin through education, advocacy, and action.
What we do there:
Cleaning up around waterways
Beautification projects like planting trees
Organizing Supplies at the Warehouse
Helping with booths at Festivals like Earth Day.
Golden Harvest Food Bank
Their Mission:
Providing access to nutritious food for people struggling with hunger and make meaningful progress towards ending hunger throughout our 24-county service territory in Georgia and South Carolina.
What we do there:
Packing Backpack Meals for students, assembling Senior Boxes, packing Meals for Families, sorting and packing canned goods, or sorting fresh produce.
Sorting, inspecting, organizing, separating food donations, repacking food, packing/weighing food boxes, sorting/packaging produce, frozen meats, vegetables, etc.
Compass for Hope
Their Mission:
Dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness. Their mission is to aid the homeless in reaching self-sufficiency through individual relationships over time, finding ways to better their lives. They go out every Sunday, rain or shine.
What we do there:
Greeting guests, possible parking lot clean up, unpacking the toiletry items to be given away, setting up the line with the days bounty to give, and handing out clothes.
Project Life
Their Mission:
The mission of Project Life is to improve the lives of our community by providing free food and clothing to households in need. Food distribution for the needy. Food and clothing pantry.
What we do there:
We sort the clothing donations so that they can be distributed to families in need.
Phinizy Center for Water Sciences
Their Vision:
The vision of Phinizy Center is that every community will have a healthy environment that includes clean water and watersheds.
What we do there:
Volunteers are the driving force keeping the park’s trails and structures repaired and maintained. We will work on priority projects around Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. Examples of projects include repairing boardwalks, trail maintenance, litter pickups, and more.
Bonding Days
Bonding Day is Youth Board’s monthly gathering focused on connection, community, and leadership growth that includes:
a brief group meeting / updates
a Leadership Moment or leadership lab
a fun team-building or social activity
It is one of the two major monthly anchors for Youth Board, along with ELDC.
Purpose
Help members feel connected
Strengthen relationships across the group
Give students a regular space to learn leadership skills
Build culture and belonging
How it differs from other events
ELDC = high school members teach leadership to younger elementary students
Service events = volunteering with outside organizations
Bonding Day = internal Youth Board community + leadership development
So if ELDC is about serving younger students, Bonding Day is about strengthening the Youth Board membership itself.
